Ryder Cup 2027: Dates, Captains, Tickets and Format

The Ryder Cup 2027 is played from Friday, September 17, to Sunday, September 19, 2027, at Adare Manor in County Limerick, Ireland. Europe defends the trophy against the United States in the event’s 100th-anniversary year.

The Ryder Cup 2027 marks 100 years of the biennial golf match between Europe and the United States, and it is the first held in Ireland since 2006.

Event week runs for seven days, Monday, September 13, to Sunday, September 19: four build-up days, including ticketed practice days and a Thursday opening ceremony, followed by three days of competition. Both captains are returning to the role.

Europe’s Luke Donald leads for a third consecutive time, and Jim Furyk returns as United States captain nine years after his first spell. The tables below give the full week with weekdays, ticket prices by day, the scoring format and start-time conversions from Irish time.

When is the Ryder Cup 2027?

The Ryder Cup 2027 competition runs from Friday, September 17, to Sunday, September 19, 2027, after four build-up days starting Monday, September 13 (Ryder Cup; Irish Examiner). Ryder Cup Europe announced the dates on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

The table below lists every day of Ryder Cup week, with its weekday and what happens. Day roles for Tuesday to Thursday follow the official ticketing announcement (Ryder Cup).

The Ryder Cup 2027 falls five days after the FIBA World Cup 2027 final in Doha on Sunday, September 12, and 12 days before the Rugby World Cup 2027 opens on Friday, October 1. Ireland’s rugby team plays its first pool match against Portugal on Monday, October 4.

How the Ryder Cup 2027 format works

The Ryder Cup is a match-play contest of 28 matches over three days, with one point for each match won, and half a point for each match halved. A team needs 14½ points to win the cup outright. Europe, as holder, retains it with 14 points. The competition runs in the order below.

  1. Friday and Saturday mornings and afternoons: four sessions of four matches each. Foursomes are two-player teams taking alternate shots with one ball. Fourballs are two-player teams with each golfer playing their own ball, and the better score on each hole counts.
  2. Sunday: 12 singles matches, one for every player on each team.

Each captain picks which players sit out the team sessions, but every player must play a singles match on Sunday. Sixteen of the 28 points are decided on Friday and Saturday, which is why a two-day lead often decides the cup before the singles finish.

Ryder Cup 2027 scoring at a glance

The table below sets out the scoring targets for both teams.

MeasurePoints
Total points available28
Points to win outright14½
Points for Europe to retain as holder14
Points for the United States to win the cup back14½
Points decided Friday and Saturday16
Points decided Sunday12

Because Europe holds the cup, a 14–14 tie leaves the trophy with Europe. The United States must win outright to take it back.

Ryder Cup 2027 captains

Luke Donald captains Europe and Jim Furyk captains the United States at the Ryder Cup 2027. The two captaincies mark two different firsts.

  • Luke Donald (Europe): appointed on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, after leading Europe to wins in 2023 and 2025. He is the first European captain to lead three consecutive Ryder Cups since Bernard Gallacher in 1991, 1993 and 1995 (Wikipedia).
  • Jim Furyk (United States): appointed in April 2026 for his second captaincy. He first captained the United States in 2018 at Le Golf National near Paris (Golf Digest; Flashscore). Reports at the time said Tiger Woods had turned down the role.

Each team has 12 players. Both sides use a mix of automatic qualifiers from a points list and captain’s picks, under criteria each tour publishes before the qualifying period. Teams are confirmed in late summer 2027.

Recent Ryder Cup results

Europe has won four of the last six Ryder Cups, and the home team won every edition from 2014 to 2023, a run that ended at Bethpage Black in 2025. The table below lists the last six results.

YearVenueWinnerScore
2014Gleneagles, ScotlandEurope16½–11½
2016Hazeltine National, United StatesUnited States17–11
2018Le Golf National, FranceEurope17½–10½
2021Whistling Straits, United StatesUnited States19–9
2023Marco Simone, ItalyEurope16½–11½
2025Bethpage Black, United StatesEurope15–13

The 2021 edition was played three years after 2018, because the event was postponed from 2020. The 2018 defeat in France came under Furyk, so the 2027 match is his second away Ryder Cup as captain.

The Ryder Cup in Ireland

Ireland hosts the Ryder Cup for the second time. The first was in 2006 at The K Club in County Kildare, where Europe won 18½–9½ (Ryder Cup). Adare Manor’s course was designed by Tom Fazio and reopened after an extensive renovation in 2017. The Irish government has committed €58 million to the event, including a €22.5 million licence fee (Wikipedia).

What the Ryder Cup 2027 is not

The Ryder Cup is a men’s professional team golf contest between Europe and the United States. It is not the Presidents Cup, the Solheim Cup, or tennis’s Laver Cup, which use similar team formats and are often confused with it. The table below separates them.

EventSportTeamsRelation to the Ryder Cup

The Ryder Cup and the Presidents Cup are both men’s professional events with the United States on one side. The difference is the opponent: the Ryder Cup uses European players only, and the Presidents Cup uses players from outside Europe.

Later in 2027, the Cricket World Cup 2027 runs from Saturday, October 2, to Sunday, November 21, in southern Africa.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the Ryder Cup 2027?

The Ryder Cup 2027 is at Adare Manor in County Limerick, Ireland. It is Ireland’s second Ryder Cup, after The K Club in County Kildare hosted in 2006. Competition runs from Friday, September 17, to Sunday, September 19, 2027, with practice days and the opening ceremony from Tuesday, September 14.

Who won the last Ryder Cup?

Europe won the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black in New York, 15–13, under captain Luke Donald. It was Europe’s first away win since 2012 and its second straight victory after Rome in 2023. Europe therefore defends the trophy at Adare Manor and retains it with a 14–14 tie.

Who are the Ryder Cup 2027 captains?

Luke Donald captains Europe for the third consecutive time, after wins in 2023 and 2025. Jim Furyk captains the United States for the second time, having led the team in France in 2018. Donald was appointed on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, and Furyk in April 2026.

How much are Ryder Cup 2027 tickets?

Competition-day tickets cost €499 each for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, September 17 to 19, 2027. Practice-day tickets cost €89 for adults and €20 for under-16s. Opening ceremony day tickets on Thursday, September 16, cost €179 for adults and €30 for under-16s. All buyers need a registered Ryder Cup ticket account.

Why is the 2027 Ryder Cup the 100th anniversary?

The first official Ryder Cup was played in 1927 in Worcester, Massachusetts, so 2027 marks 100 years since that match. The contest is held every two years, with occasional exceptions, such as the 2020 edition moved to 2021, so 2027 is a centenary year rather than the 100th match.

When is the next Ryder Cup after 2027?

The next Ryder Cup after 2027 is in 2029, in the United States, because the event alternates between European and American venues every two years. The Ryder Cup moved to odd-numbered years after the 2001 match was postponed to 2002 following the September 11 attacks, then returned to odd years with the 2021 edition.
