Pisces dates in 2027 are Thursday, February 18, to Saturday, March 20, Eastern Time. The Sun enters Pisces at 4:33 p.m. EST on February 18 and Aries at the March equinox, 4:25 p.m. EDT on March 20.
The Pisces zodiac sign covers the twelfth and final 30 degrees of the ecliptic, from 330° to 360° of celestial longitude. It always ends at the March equinox, when the zodiac starts again at Aries.
In 2027, both Pisces boundaries fall in the afternoon in the United States, so February 18 and March 20 are each split between two signs, and most of March 20 is still Pisces.
Pisces 2027 also starts in standard time and ends in daylight time, because US clocks spring forward on Sunday, March 14, 2027, during Pisces season.
In Eastern Time, Pisces began on February 18 every year from 2024 to 2028, so printed ranges that start on February 19 or 20 are a day or more late.
This page gives the exact 2027 start and end times in every US time zone and the dates for 2024 through 2030. It also compares the Western sign with Vedic Meena and with the Pisces constellation, which now contains the March equinox point.

In every US time zone, the first full calendar day of Pisces 2027 is Friday, February 19, and the last full day is Friday, March 19. Most of Saturday, March 20, is also Pisces in the United States, because Aries does not begin until the afternoon on the East Coast and mid-morning in Hawaii.
Pisces zodiac sign dates that differ by location
In India and Australia, Pisces 2027 starts and ends one calendar day later than in the Americas and Europe. These are the boundaries that matter for births in 2027:
- Thursday, February 18: a birth before 4:33 p.m. EST (1:33 p.m. PST) is an Aquarius; a birth at or after that moment is a Pisces.
- Saturday, March 20: a birth before 4:25 p.m. EDT (1:25 p.m. PDT) is a Pisces; a birth at or after that moment is an Aries. In Hawaii, the cutoff is 10:25 a.m. HST.
- India and Australia: Pisces begins on Friday, February 19, and ends on Sunday, March 21, so all of March 20, 2027, is Pisces there.
Pisces dates by year, 2024 to 2030
Pisces always ends at the March equinox, and both boundaries shift by roughly six hours each year. The table below lists each year’s start and end, drawn from these sources:
- Start times: Cafe Astrology’s Pisces ingress pages for 2024, 2025, 2026, and 2027, and Moontracks for 2028. Start dates for 2029 and 2030 come from Augurine’s ingress calendars for 2029 and 2030, which list dates without times.
- End times: the March equinox times published by Timeanddate, which match the U.S. Naval Observatory to within 1 minute.
| Year | Pisces begins (Eastern Time) | Pisces ends at the March equinox (Eastern Time) | Length of Pisces season |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2024 | Sunday, February 18, 11:12 p.m. EST | Tuesday, March 19, 11:06 p.m. EDT | 29 days, 22 hours, 54 minutes |
| 2025 | Tuesday, February 18, 5:06 a.m. EST | Thursday, March 20, 5:01 a.m. EDT | 29 days, 22 hours, 55 minutes |
| 2026 | Wednesday, February 18, 10:52 a.m. EST | Friday, March 20, 10:46 a.m. EDT | 29 days, 22 hours, 54 minutes |
| 2027 | Thursday, February 18, 4:33 p.m. EST | Saturday, March 20, 4:25 p.m. EDT | 29 days, 22 hours, 52 minutes |
| 2028 | Friday, February 18, 10:26 p.m. EST | Sunday, March 19, 10:17 p.m. EDT | 29 days, 22 hours, 51 minutes |
| 2029 | Sunday, February 18 (UTC date) | Tuesday, March 20, 4:02 a.m. EDT | Not yet confirmed to the minute |
| 2030 | Monday, February 18 (UTC date) | Wednesday, March 20, 9:51 a.m. EDT | Not yet confirmed to the minute |
Season lengths are elapsed time. Because clocks spring forward during the season, the wall-clock difference between the start and end times is one hour more than the elapsed time.
Why Pisces starts on February 18 in recent years
In Eastern Time, Pisces began on February 18 in every year from 2024 to 2028, even though many printed charts give February 19. The leap day keeps the Pisces ingress within a narrow window. It moved from 11:12 p.m. EST in 2024 to 5:06 a.m. in 2025, 10:52 a.m. in 2026, and 4:33 p.m. in 2027, then to 10:26 p.m. in 2028. In UTC, the 2024 and 2028 ingresses fall on February 19.
Pisces season lasts about 29 days and 23 hours every year, about 9 hours longer than Aquarius. Earth slows down as it moves away from perihelion in early January, so from Capricorn through Cancer, each sign lasts a little longer than the one before.
How to check whether a birthday is Pisces
Use this method for a birth date of February 18 or 19, or March 19, 20 or 21:
- Find that year’s Pisces start or end time in the tables above and convert it to UTC.
- Convert the birth time to UTC. A US birth on or after the second Sunday in March uses daylight time; a birth before it uses standard time.
- A birth at or after the start time and before the end time is Pisces.
Observances during Pisces season 2027
Pisces season 2027 contains no federal holidays. Washington’s Birthday, on Monday, February 15, falls in Aquarius season, according to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. Daylight saving time begins during Pisces season, and the season ends at the March equinox.
| Date | Observance | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Sunday, March 14, 2027 | Daylight saving time begins | Clocks spring forward one hour at 2:00 a.m. local time |
| Sunday, March 14, 2027 | Meena Sankranti, 9:34 p.m. EDT | Sun enters sidereal Pisces in the Hindu calendar |
| Wednesday, March 17, 2027 | St. Patrick’s Day | Observance; not a federal holiday |
| Saturday, March 20, 2027 | March equinox, 4:25 p.m. EDT | First day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere and end of Pisces |
Pisces birthdays span two birthstone months, February and March; the stones are covered on February Birthstone and March Birthstone.
What is the Pisces zodiac sign?
The Pisces zodiac sign is the segment of the ecliptic from 330° to 360° of celestial longitude, the last of 12 equal sectors measured from the March equinox. Its end point, 360° (equal to 0°), is the March equinox itself, where Aries begins.
Western astrology assigns Pisces the attributes below, according to the reference entry on Wikipedia.
| Attribute | Pisces |
|---|---|
| Position | 12th of 12 signs; ecliptic longitude 330°–360° |
| Symbol | ♓ two fish joined by a cord |
| Element | Water, shared with Cancer and Scorpio |
| Modality | Mutable, shared with Gemini, Virgo and Sagittarius |
| Ruling planet | Jupiter (traditional); Neptune (modern) |
| Exaltation | Venus |
| Detriment | Mercury |
| Fall | Mercury |
| Opposite sign | Virgo |
| Sanskrit name | Meena |
In Greek myth, the two fish are Aphrodite and her son Eros, who turned into fish to escape the monster Typhon. In another account, fish rolled an egg ashore that hatched into Aphrodite, and she placed the fish in the sky out of gratitude.
In traditional astrology, Mercury has both its detriment and its fall in Pisces.
Astrological tradition associates Pisces with imagination, empathy, and sensitivity. These are astrological attributions, not findings of psychological research.
Pisces in Vedic astrology: Meena
Vedic (Jyotish) astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, so its Pisces, called Meena, starts about 24 days after the Western sign. In 2027, the Sun enters sidereal Pisces on Sunday, March 14, at 9:34 p.m. EDT, which is 7:04 a.m. IST on Monday, March 15, according to the Sankranti table published by Drik Panchang. AAPS gives 7:00 a.m. IST on March 15 for the same event.
The 4-minute gap comes from different ayanamsa values; the ayanamsa is the offset each system uses between the tropical and sidereal zodiacs.
This moment is called Meena Sankranti. Sidereal Pisces ends at Mesha Sankranti, the solar new year in several regional calendars, when the Sun enters sidereal Aries on Wednesday, April 14, 2027, at 6:03 a.m. EDT, also according to Drik Panchang. Sidereal Pisces therefore lasts about 30 days and 8.5 hours in 2027.
As a result, a person born in Eastern Time between Thursday, February 18, and the evening of Sunday, March 14, 2027, is a Pisces in Western astrology and an Aquarius (Kumbha) in Vedic astrology. Only births from 9:34 p.m. EDT on March 14 to 4:25 p.m. EDT on Saturday, March 20, are Pisces in both systems.
The Pisces constellation
The Pisces constellation is separate from the Pisces sign. It ranks 14th of the 88 constellations by area, covering 889 square degrees, according to Wikipedia’s constellation entry. Despite its size, it is the second-dimmest zodiac constellation and has no star brighter than magnitude 3. These are its best-known features:
- Alpherg (Eta Piscium): the brightest star, magnitude 3.62, about 349 light-years away.
- M74: a spiral galaxy about 30 million light-years away, discovered in 1780. It is the constellation’s only Messier object.
- The March equinox point: the point where the Sun crosses the celestial equator each March now lies inside Pisces and is drifting westward toward Aquarius.
The Sun passes in front of the Pisces constellation from about March 11 to April 18, for 38 days, based on EarthSky’s table of constellation entry dates. That window covers the last 9 days of Western Pisces season and most of Western Aries season.
Why the zodiac starts in the Pisces constellation
The zodiac begins at the March equinox, a point astronomers still call the First Point of Aries. When the system was set up, that point lay among the stars of Aries. Precession of the equinoxes, a slow wobble of Earth’s axis, has since carried it into the Pisces constellation.
It is expected to reach Aquarius around 2600 AD. On Saturday, March 20, 2027, when tropical Aries begins at 4:25 p.m. EDT, the Sun will be standing among the stars of Pisces.
What Pisces is not
Three different things share the name Pisces, and their 2027 dates do not match. The table below compares them.
| Feature | Pisces zodiac sign (tropical) | Meena (sidereal Pisces) | Pisces constellation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Used by | Western astrology | Vedic astrology, Hindu calendars | Astronomy |
| Defined by | 330° to 360° from the March equinox | Fixed stars, with an ayanamsa | IAU constellation boundaries |
| Length | About 29 days, 23 hours | About 30 days, 8.5 hours | About 38 days |
| 2027 start (Eastern Time) | Thursday, February 18 | Sunday, March 14 | About March 11 |
| 2027 end (Eastern Time) | Saturday, March 20 | Wednesday, April 14 | About April 18 |
Pisces is also not a late-winter sign everywhere. In the Southern Hemisphere, Pisces season covers late summer and ends at the start of autumn.
