Full Moon Calendar 2027: Every Full Moon Date, Time, and Sign

There are 12 full moons in 2027. The first is the Wolf Moon on Friday, January 22, at 7:17 a.m. EST, which is also the year’s only supermoon, and the last is the Cold Moon on Monday, December 13, at 11:09 a.m. EST.

A full moon is a single instant: the moment the Moon stands directly opposite the Sun in the sky. Its calendar date therefore depends on where you are.

In 2027, the June full moon falls on Friday, June 18, everywhere in the United States, but on Saturday, June 19, in the UK, India and Australia. The November full moon falls on Saturday, November 13, in the US, but on Sunday, November 14, in Europe and Asia.

This calendar gives every 2027 full moon to the minute in all six US time zones, along with its traditional name, the zodiac sign the Moon is in, and its distance from Earth.

It also covers the year’s supermoon and micromoon, the seasonal Blue Moon on May 20, the Harvest and Hunter’s Moons, and the three full moons that bring a penumbral lunar eclipse. Datescal’s Moon Phases 2027 page lists the new moons and quarter phases.

Full moon calendar 2027 at a glance

The table below lists every 2027 full moon with its date and time in US Eastern Time and in UTC. The times come from the U.S. Naval Observatory.

The distances from Earth come from Moonblink, whose times agree with the Naval Observatory’s to the minute. The traditional names follow Datescal’s Moon Phases 2027 table, with the September and October names explained below.

The last full moon before 2027 begins falls at 8:28 p.m. EST on Wednesday, December 23, 2026 (01:28 UTC on December 24), according to the Naval Observatory’s 2026 table.

The first full moon of 2028 follows in January. Each month’s full moon is also marked on Datescal’s monthly calendars, such as the January 2027 calendar and the December 2027 calendar.

2027 full moon times by US time zone

A full moon happens at the same instant everywhere, so its clock time, and sometimes its date, changes from one time zone to the next.

The table below converts each Naval Observatory time to all six US time zones. Daylight saving time runs from March 14 to November 7, 2027; Hawaii does not observe it.

Full moons that fall on different dates by location

Seven of the 12 full moons of 2027 fall on different calendar dates in different parts of the world. These five matter most for US and international readers:

  • Sturgeon Moon: Tuesday, August 17, in most of the US, but Monday, August 16, in Alaska (11:29 p.m. AKDT) and Hawaii (9:29 p.m. HST).
  • Strawberry Moon: Friday, June 18, everywhere in the US, but Saturday, June 19, in London (1:44 a.m. BST), India and Sydney.
  • Beaver Moon: Saturday, November 13, everywhere in the US, but Sunday, November 14, in London (3:26 a.m. GMT), India and Sydney.
  • Snow Moon: Saturday, February 20, in the Americas and Europe, but Sunday, February 21, in India (4:53 a.m. IST) and Sydney (10:23 a.m. AEDT).
  • Harvest Moon: Wednesday, September 15, in the Americas, but Thursday, September 16, in London (12:03 a.m. BST), India, and Sydney.

The other two are the Hunter’s Moon and the Cold Moon, which fall on the next day in Sydney: 12:47 a.m. AEDT on October 16 and 3:09 a.m. AEDT on December 14.

To the eye, the Moon looks round on the night before and the night after the exact moment of full moon. The evening closest to the listed time is usually the best night to see it.

Supermoon and micromoon 2027

The only supermoon of 2027 is the Wolf Moon on Friday, January 22. At about 357,650 km from Earth, it is the closest full moon of the year. Moonblink gives its distance as 357,644 km and Timeandspace.science as 357,666 km. Both WhatMoonPhase and Timeandspace.science list it as 2027’s only supermoon.

According to Wikipedia, the term comes from astrologer Richard Nolle, who defined a supermoon as a full or new moon within 90% of the Moon’s closest approach to Earth.

The farthest full moon of 2027, a micromoon, is the Buck Moon on Sunday, July 18, at 405,973 km. The Wolf Moon is about 48,300 km closer.

Wikipedia notes that a full moon at perigee, the Moon’s closest point to Earth, looks about 14% larger in diameter and about 30% brighter than a full moon at apogee, its farthest point.

Harvest Moon and Hunter’s Moon 2027

The Harvest Moon of 2027 is the full moon of Wednesday, September 15, at 7:03 p.m. EDT, and the Hunter’s Moon is the full moon of Friday, October 15, at 9:47 a.m. EDT.

According to Wikipedia, the Harvest Moon is the full moon nearest the September equinox, falling within two weeks either side of it, and the Hunter’s Moon is the full moon after it. Timeandspace.science gives the same two dates.

The September equinox of 2027 falls at 2:02 a.m. EDT on Thursday, September 23, according to Datescal’s First Day of Fall 2027: September Equinox Date and Time.

The September 15 full moon comes about 7 days before the equinox, while the October 15 full moon comes about 22 days after it.

September’s full moon is closer, so it takes the Harvest Moon name in 2027. In years when the October full moon is closer to the equinox, the Harvest Moon falls in October instead.

Blue Moon 2027

2027 has a seasonal Blue Moon on Thursday, May 20, at 6:59 a.m. EDT, but no monthly Blue Moon. EarthSky describes two definitions:

  • Seasonal Blue Moon: the third of four full moons in one astronomical season. Spring 2027 runs from the March equinox on March 20 to the June solstice on June 21 and contains four full moons, on March 22, April 20, May 20 and June 18. The third of these, on May 20, is the Blue Moon.
  • Monthly Blue Moon: the second full moon in a single calendar month. No month of 2027 has two full moons. According to EarthSky, the previous monthly Blue Moon was on May 31, 2026, and the next is on December 31, 2028.

Universaltimedate gives the same date, May 20, 2027. It also notes that the seasonal definition does not depend on time zone, while the monthly definition can.

Lunar eclipses at the full moon in 2027

Three of 2027’s full moons pass through the penumbra, the outer part of Earth’s shadow, which produces a penumbral lunar eclipse.

According to NASA’s eclipse list, there is no total or partial lunar eclipse in 2027. A penumbral eclipse dims the Moon only slightly and is hard to notice unless its penumbral magnitude is high.

DateGreatest eclipsePenumbral magnitudeWhere visible
Saturday, February 2023:13 UTC (6:13 p.m. EST)0.93All of Africa, Europe and western, central and south Asia; rising over the Americas
Sunday, July 1816:03 UTC (12:03 p.m. EDT)Under 0.01Asia, east Africa and Australia; too shallow to see in practice
Tuesday, August 1707:14 UTC (3:14 a.m. EDT)0.55All of North and South America

Visibility and magnitudes come from Wikipedia’s pages on the February, July and August eclipses. The times come from NASA.

The August 17 penumbral eclipse is the only 2027 lunar eclipse fully visible from the United States, with greatest eclipse at 3:14 a.m. EDT (12:14 a.m. PDT). The two solar eclipses of 2027 fall at new moon, not full moon: an annular eclipse on February 6 and a total eclipse on August 2.

2027 full moons by zodiac sign

At a full moon, the Moon sits in the zodiac sign opposite the Sun’s. The table below gives the Moon’s tropical sign at each 2027 full moon.

Each one is worked out from the Sun’s sign at that moment, using the ingress times on Datescal’s Zodiac Signs and Dates hub.

2027 has two full moons in Scorpio, in April and May, and none in Cancer. The April 20 full moon falls about 15 hours after the Sun enters Taurus, and the May 20 full moon falls about 19 hours before the Sun leaves it.

The Sun is in Taurus both times, so the Moon is in Scorpio both times. The most recent full moon in Cancer falls on December 23, 2026, just before the year begins.

The full moon and Easter 2027

The Worm Moon of Monday, March 22, 2027, is the first full moon after the March equinox, so it sets the date of Easter. Western churches celebrate Easter on the Sunday after that full moon, which in 2027 is Sunday, March 28, as Datescal’s Easter Sunday 2027 page explains.

Frequently asked questions

How many full moons are there in 2027?

There are 12 full moons in 2027, one in each calendar month, from the Wolf Moon on Friday, January 22, to the Cold Moon on Monday, December 13, in US Eastern Time.

Because no month has two full moons, 2027 has no monthly Blue Moon, but the May 20 full moon is a seasonal Blue Moon, the third of four full moons in spring.

When is the first full moon of 2027?

The first full moon of 2027 is the Wolf Moon on Friday, January 22, at 7:17 a.m. EST (12:17 UTC), according to the U.S. Naval Observatory.

It is also the only supermoon of 2027, at about 357,650 km from Earth. The full moon before it fell at 8:28 p.m. EST on Wednesday, December 23, 2026.

Is there a supermoon in 2027?

Yes. The Wolf Moon of Friday, January 22, 2027, is the year’s only supermoon and its closest full moon, at about 357,650 km from Earth. The farthest full moon of 2027, a micromoon, is the Buck Moon of Sunday, July 18, at about 405,970 km. A perigee full moon looks about 14% wider and 30% brighter than an apogee full moon.

When is the Harvest Moon in 2027?

The Harvest Moon of 2027 is the full moon of Wednesday, September 15, at 7:03 p.m. EDT. It is the full moon nearest the September equinox, which falls on September 23, 2027, about 7 days later. The Hunter’s Moon, the next full moon, follows on Friday, October 15, at 9:47 a.m. EDT.

Is there a lunar eclipse in 2027?

Yes, but only penumbral ones. Three full moons in 2027 bring penumbral lunar eclipses on February 20, July 18, and August 17, according to NASA. The August 17 eclipse is fully visible across North and South America, with greatest eclipse at 3:14 a.m. EDT. The July 18 eclipse is too shallow to see. There is no total lunar eclipse in 2027.

Why do full moon dates differ between websites?

Full moon dates differ because a full moon is a single instant that falls on different calendar dates in different time zones. The June 2027 full moon, for example, is on June 18 in the United States but June 19 in the UK. Times can also differ by a minute because some sources round the seconds and others drop them.
