Calendar 2027: Holidays, Events, National Days & Observances

The calendar 2027 has 365 days, beginning on Friday, January 1, and ending on Friday, December 31, 2027. It is not a leap year. Easter falls on Sunday, March 28, and the United States observes 11 federal holidays.

U.S. federal employees get 12 paid holidays in calendar year 2027, not 11. New Year’s Day 2028 falls on a Saturday, so the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) observes it on Friday, December 31, 2027.

The first three days of 2027 belong to week 53 of 2026 under the ISO week-numbering system, so ISO week 1 of 2027 begins on Monday, January 4. The year has 53 Fridays, only one Friday the 13th (August 13), and the clocks in the UK go forward on Easter Sunday, March 28, 2027.

2027 calendar at a glance

2027 calendar with holidays: United States

The United States observes 11 federal holidays in 2027, and three of them move to a weekday because they fall on a weekend. Under 5 U.S.C. 6103(b), a holiday on a Saturday is observed on the preceding Friday and a holiday on a Sunday on the following Monday. The table follows the OPM 2027 federal holiday list.

Why federal workers get 12 holidays in the 2027 calendar

New Year’s Day 2028 falls on Saturday, January 1, 2028, so OPM lists it as observed on Friday, December 31, 2027. OPM files that observance under 2028, but for pay and leave it falls inside calendar year 2027.

Federal employees therefore have two New Year’s Day holidays in 2027: January 1 and December 31. Private employers set their own holiday schedules and may not follow the federal observance.

How 2027 federal holiday observances affect long weekends

The observed dates create six three-day weekends ending on a Monday (January 18, February 15, May 31, July 5, September 6 and October 11) and three beginning on a Friday (June 18, December 24 and December 31). Thanksgiving, Thursday, November 25, creates a four-day weekend for workers who also take Friday, November 26.

How many days, weeks and working days are in 2027?

2027 has 365 days, 52 full weeks plus one day, 261 weekdays, and 250 working days after U.S. federal holidays.

The calculation is: 365 days = 52 weeks × 7 days + 1 extra day. The extra day is a Friday, so 2027 has 52 × 5 + 1 = 261 weekdays.

All 11 observed federal holidays fall on weekdays, leaving 261 − 11 = 250 working days, or 249 for federal employees, who also have December 31 off.

England and Wales, with 8 weekday bank holidays, have 253 working days.

2027 has 52 ISO weeks; week 1 runs from Monday, January 4, to Sunday, January 10, 2027. Under ISO 8601, week 1 is the week containing the year’s first Thursday.

Friday, January 1, to Sunday, January 3, 2027, belong to week 53 of 2026, because 2026 began on a Thursday and has 53 ISO weeks. Week 52 of 2027 ends on Sunday, January 2, 2028.

Notable dates in 2027

The seasons begin with the first day of spring on Saturday, March 20, followed by the summer solstice on Monday, June 21, the first day of fall on Thursday, September 23 (September 22 on the West Coast) and the winter solstice on Tuesday, December 21, in U.S. time zones.

The total solar eclipse of Monday, August 2, 2027, lasts up to 6 minutes 23 seconds, the longest totality on land this century until 2114, with the path crossing Spain, North Africa, Egypt and Saudi Arabia. The table lists all five 2027 eclipses from NASA’s eclipse catalog.

2026 vs. 2027 vs. 2028 calendar

2027 is a common year between a 53-ISO-week 2026 and the leap year 2028. The table compares the three.

Thanksgiving (U.S.)Thursday, November 26Thursday, November 25Thursday, November 23

2027 has the same weekday layout as 2021, so a 2021 calendar matches every date in 2027. Holidays tied to Easter or the lunar calendars do not match.

What the 2027 calendar is not

The calendar year is often confused with other kinds of year. The points below separate them.

  • 2027 is not a leap year. February 2027 has 28 days; the next leap day is Tuesday, February 29, 2028.
  • 2027 does not start in ISO week 1. January 1–3 belong to week 53 of 2026.
  • The calendar year is not the U.S. federal fiscal year. Fiscal year 2027 runs from Thursday, October 1, 2026, to Thursday, September 30, 2027.
  • It is not the same as other calendar systems’ years. 2027 spans Hebrew years 5787–5788 (Jewish Calendar 2027) and Hijri years 1448–1449 (Islamic Calendar 2027).
